Back to School is the first episode of the second season of American Housewife, and the twenty-fourth episode overall. Written by Rick Wiener & Kenny Schwartz and directed by Chris Koch, it aired on September 27, 2017.

Plot[]

In order to show her kids she will share the commitment to effort that she expects from them, Katie volunteers for perhaps the most stressful assignment at the school — chairing the annual Spring Gala. Meanwhile, Oliver is being singled out and treated with disdain by his ballet teacher, causing Katie to confront the woman.

The episode starts with the kids yelling for Katie. They are in the living room while calling for her. Oliver needs more dance clothes. Taylor needs to start driving and she also needs to do her summer packet. Until Taylor doesn’t finish it, she is not gonna start driving. But Greg agrees with Taylor so they can have a little bonding time with each other. Anna-Kat is forced by Katie in doing an after school club. Katie volunteers but the other moms won’t allow her because of the fake pregnancy. Greg gets kicked out of the recycling committee. Anna-Kat is happy about Katie being banned from volunteering. Katie’s master plan is in hell. Katie seeks some advice from Doris and Angela about doing an apology video for the Westport moms. Suzanne accepts Katie’s apology, but she is not ready to get Katie invited, because Katie is the one who looks down on everyone else. After Suzanne finishes her sentence, Katie starts to cry and Greg comforts her because she got kicked out of volunteering. Taylor and Greg are doing driving lessons and Taylor mentions about robots. Oliver gets out of control in ballet when Nina gives him and F on his practice. Which makes Katie confront her and fight her. At school, Katie apologizes to Suzanne and Tara and chairs the spring gala. Suzanne is proud of Katie. Tara is a little happy, it will ultimately destroy Katie’s life. Katie tells Tara that stupid says ha. At home, Katie and Greg confront Taylor about driving, until she comes up with a plan after high school, college is the current plan and Greg talked to her teachers, and she has to be done with her summer packet by the end of the week. If she doesn’t do it, she can’t afford boarding school empty threat. Taylor tells Katie and Greg that they are so unfair. Katie and Greg are happy with the first confront, now the second one. Katie talks with Anna-Kat, who has her pjs on because she had a long day. Katie tells her to sign up for an after school club. Anna-Kat tells her and Greg what Taylor said. So she starts crying so Katie and Anna-Kat hug while Anna-Kat is still crying so Katie tells Anna-Kat that her and Anna-Kat will do reward systems for Anna-Kat so Anna-Kat says ok. Oliver is fine. They are proud of what he did today. Katie spends time with Anna-Kat after so Katie tells Anna-Kat to try a mask on for Katie and Anna-Kat asks Katie is if there a disease happening so Anna-Kat gets very apprehensive of it and Katie says that there is no disease. Katie wants Anna-Kat to try it on so Anna-Kat tries it on but not fully on so Katie tells Anna-Kat to put it over her nose so Anna-Kat puts the mask over her nose and then she takes it off. They both spend time together after that nonsense. At the end of the episode, Katie deals with the spring gala and Anna-Kat tells Katie about a club because she’s nervous and Katie tells her it’s ok but Anna-Kat behaved for Katie last night. So Katie tells Anna-Kat that she’s earned a tally so Anna-Kat gets very happy and thanks Katie.

You guys are being so unfair. Taylor to Katie and Greg after he gives her her summer packet.

Katie narrating: you did it Katie. You made it through the summer.

Oliver: Mom

Taylor: Mom

Katie narrating: these kids have been waiting on you for a year. And now there coming again to bite you on the ass.

Anna-Kat: mama

Oliver: Mom where are you?

Katie narrating: it’s time to get things started. Let’s do this.

Oliver: Mom a word?

Katie: no word.

Taylor: Mom

Katie: uh-uh.

Taylor: but I didn’t ask anything yet.

Katie: it’s either too much or I don’t have time.

Anna-Kat: Mom

Katie: we can not have a dog.

Anna-Kat: you didn’t swear this time. Your softening. (Giggles and shakes her butt while giggling)

Katie: Greg, can you help me find my car keys?

Greg: sure. I’ll help you look.

Oliver: Mom, I got another runner in my tights I’m in a real ballet academy now. For god’s sake by a decent pair of dance skins.

Anna-Kat: Mom

Taylor: Mom my drivers license is in two weeks and I need someone to take me out to practice.

Katie: can’t drive without car keys. Everyone fan out.

Oliver: Mom, I need to take professional. My plan about getting into Harvard might be a one over cross day leotard.

Katie: well my plan for smoking cigarettes was ruined by you more often.

Oliver: I need you to take this seriously. My teacher has already got you an email and you haven’t gotten back.

Katie: what happened to my little boy with a beautiful little girl’s voice? Ehh.

Sam: Katie why are you just acting like cranky pants? It’s 2017.

Katie: because I don’t have time.

(both Taylor and Anna-Kat) Mom

Katie: what?

Anna-Kat: look at this picture of a corgi dressed as a banana.

Katie: ehh.

Anna-Kat: don’t play me. You know it’s cute.

Katie: have you picked your after school activity yet?

Anna-Kat: I told you I’m not doing one.

Katie: Greg

Greg: Anna-Kat it’s fun to be involved. You know that school started I can’t wait to be a part of the recycling committee again and hang with my crew.

Katie: you mean the janitors.

Greg: and Bill Doty.

Katie: everyone, find my keys in a place I haven’t looked yet. Taylor, did you do your summer packet?

Taylor: yeah I have it but I didn’t do it.

Katie: you realize your talking to the mean parent. Right?

Taylor: (sighs) here me out. I’ve decided I’m not going to college.

Greg: Taylor you are going to college. Not a good college but college.

Taylor: but I don’t think it feels right for me. It’s a waste of your time and your money.

Greg: Well it’s not your call to make so until you’re not done with your summer packet your not gonna start driving.

Katie: hold up. Greg. (Laughing) of course you’re gonna start driving and your father is going to teach you.

Greg: can you put on a shirt that doesn’t look like it’s hooter is issued?

Katie: and look for my keys.

Greg: why aren’t we ruling one another?

Katie: you are ruining my master plan.

Greg: master plans are for villains who want to take me to see me at bad times.

Katie: I have a three prong plan. Prong 1 get Anna-Kat into a club so her and Taylor can be on the same schedule.

Taylor: no way. I’m not being with Anna-Kat she’ll annoy me.

Katie: well I’ll tell her to not annoy you.

Taylor: thanks Mom.

Katie: prong two, Oliver’s teacher gets understandable fingers crossed. And prong three. When Taylor gets her license, she’ll drive Oliver and Anna-Kat back and forth and I’m free. Do you here me Greg? Free.

Greg: ok you can stop.

Katie: fine. I’m sorry. But I’m ready for Taylor. I can’t wait for her to get her license.

Anna-Kat: I found your keys.

Katie: really?

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. Your favorite person found them mama. (Giggles and shakes her butt while giggling)

Katie: (giggles with Anna-Kat) you have to do an after school club.

Anna-Kat: what about Taylor?

Katie: she has to go to college. Because she’s going to college.

Anna-Kat: Ooh Taylor has to go to college. She’s gonna go to college and be grounded forever. (Giggles)

Katie: Anna-Kat, uh-uh. You weren’t a part of the conversation between daddy and Taylor so don’t ruin it for Taylor.

Anna-Kat: (gets sad because she can’t annoy Taylor)

Katie: listen, I know you like to do that but she doesn’t like it and I don’t want you annoying Taylor. It’s not ok. Now get in the car. Maybe I’ll sign up for volunteering.

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily and claps her hands for Katie)

Katie: ok cuckoo pants. Get in the car.

Oliver: how’d you miss that?

Greg: how many times do I have to tell everyone in this house I have an overly round eye.

Katie: hey you’re not the only one who’s going through something. They banned me from volunteering at school.

Anna-Kat: they did? Great. That means I don’t have to join a club. (Clapping)

Katie narrating: my master plan just went to hell. I’m gonna be starting my own life again. Katie, maybe we should get three new kids and start a new life again. Ehh maybe not.

(during sunset)

Katie: ah. My other two are getting ready for a new life all over again while my baby princess sweetheart is gonna be a little happy and giggly because she loves to giggle. (goes to Anna-Kat’s room)

Elizabeth: where are you going?

Katie: I’m going to Anna-Kat’s room to check in and see what’s happening with her.

Elizabeth: damn you go girl.

Katie: (chuckles and opens Anna-Kat’s door) hi sweetheart.

Anna-Kat: hi mama. (Puts her feet up)

Katie: why are the you on your pjs and why are you barefoot?

Anna-Kat: because I love pjs and I love to be barefoot.

Katie: aw you don’t like clothes and not to put your shoes on? You just love pjs and bare feet?

Anna-Kat: uh-huh.

Katie: (chuckles) we’re gonna have chicken and rice for dinner? OK?

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: you just had a long day. Right?

Anna-Kat: yeah. So I put these pjs on. It’s a white background with blue polka dots. And the pants one is the same. (Lays on Katie’s arms)

Katie: aw hi my sweetheart. (Rubs Anna-Kat’s back during the hug)

Anna-Kat: (lays on Katie’s arms more)

Katie: aw I love you too. (Rubs Anna-Kat’s back more during the hug) are those your favorite pjs?

Anna-Kat: uh-huh.

Katie: (touches Anna-Kat’s pajama pants and rubs them) there so comfy on you.

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. Clothes make me feel like my legs hard so my pjs are so comfy. Pajamas are the best type of clothing ever in Westport.

Katie: that’s great my baby princess sweetheart. You could’ve had your belly button out.

Anna-Kat: well not really because I don’t want to get cold with my window open.

Katie: huh, I would’ve closed it.

Anna-Kat: yeah, but we’ll leave it open because I need air. I don’t want to sweat.

Katie: I know but it’s fall and we have to close the windows because it’s September. And we’ve been here for it.

Anna-Kat: but why?

Katie: because we all know about this. It’s now 2017.

Anna-Kat: oh. I thought it was 2016.

Katie: no sweetheart. It’s 2017. We moved to Westport last year. Last year was 2016. This year is 2017.

Anna-Kat: huh, weird. It feels like 2016 to me.

Katie: well it’s usually 2017 to me but it feels like it’s 2016 to you.

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. (Claps to the 5 beat clap rhythm)

Katie: you love to clap. Right?

Anna-Kat: yeah. I’m gonna do the clapping rhythm by Steve Reich. Do you wanna do it with me mama?

Katie: of course sweetie.

Anna-Kat: yay. (Giggles) 1,2,3. (Katie and Anna-Kat do the clapping rhythm from Steve Reich)

Katie: that’s how it goes?

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. There’s an animation one but I do it on TikTok.

Katie: you have TikTok?

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. When you were out when I had these on, I was doing I don’t want your man. It’s a great song. I’ve been using that app since we’ve been living here in Westport.

Katie: sweet. so were is you’re stuffed animal?

Anna-Kat: I have one right here next to the ponies. It’s a stuffed animal bird. It’s face is white and it’s forehead and other parts of it is red.

Katie: is that you’re favorite stuffed animal?

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. I love her so much. (Hugs her stuffed animal bird while giggling) every time I cry or get sad of something, I hug it to cheer me up.

Katie: aw that’s sweet. I know every time you’d cry, I’m always here for you and I always hug you because I love you so much and you will always be my favorite person. And your stuffed animal bird will always be your favorite person too. you know what? I’m proud of you today. You are giving me the best as you can and I appreciate it. And I’m so proud of you for being so good during Oliver’s ballet practice.

Anna-Kat: thanks mama.

Katie: your welcome my little Anna-Kat, aka my little princess sweetheart and my favorite person.

Anna-Kat: (giggles, claps her hands because of what Katie said to her and her and Katie hug and rub each other’s backs during it)

Katie: alrighty. I’ll talk to you in an hour ok?

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: alright. I love you.

Anna-Kat: I love you too.

(Both hug and rub each other’s backs during it)

Katie: (opens Taylor’s door) why are you still on your clothes?

Taylor: because I love them. Pajamas are so boring.

Katie: yeah but Anna-Kat loves them so much.

Taylor: yeah because it’s her favorite type of clothing in Westport.

Katie: yeah. Have you’ve doing your summer packet?

Taylor: not yet. Were’s Dad?

Katie: he’s still at the meeting about recycling.

Taylor: maybe I might do my summer packet next week.

Katie: Taylor, you have to do it at the end of the week. If you don’t do your summer packet this week, you’re not gonna be going out with your friends then. Got it?

Taylor: got it.

Katie: thanks. I’ll check you in in about an hour.

Taylor: ok get out.

Katie: (sighs offendly, leaves Taylor’s room and opens and closes Taylor’s door, then goes to Oliver’s room and checks on him)

Oliver: Mom, what are you doing in my room?

Katie: I’m just checking. Stop being very disrespectful to me.

Oliver: I can’t help it Mom. Because ballet had given a strong dislike to me. What am I gonna do?

Katie: well you have to think about it. If you wanna go into Harvard then you have to respect the rules in ballet.

Oliver: fine.

Katie: thank you. I’ll check you in an hour. (leaves Oliver’s room, closes Oliver’s door and goes downstairs to watch a movie)

Anna-Kat: mama, can I go on the iPad?

Katie: not tonight.

Anna-Kat: aw.

Katie: but don’t worry, you can go on it tomorrow.

Anna-Kat: yay.

Katie: as long as you behave. OK?

Anna-Kat: OK.

Katie: OK. (Both hug) I love you.

Anna-Kat: I love you too. (Goes back upstairs to her room and plays with her ponies and stuffed animals)

Katie: (opens Taylor’s door).

Taylor: Hey you guys can’t come in here without knocking.

Katie: (laughs hysterically) you’re adorable go.

Greg: (to Taylor) until you come up with a plan on what you want to do after high school college is still the current plan and I talked to you’re teachers, and you need to be done with your summer packet by the weeks end, and if you don’t do it, there’s always boarding school we all know we can’t afford boarding school empty threat.

Katie: (glances at Taylor)

Anna-Kat: (hears Katie and Greg confronting Taylor) (in her own room) Ooh Taylor has to do

Katie: Anna-Kat, are you worrying about yourself? Because if you’re not, no electronics for tomorrow.

Anna-Kat: (covers her mouth because she doesn’t want to get in trouble by Katie) don’t say it Anna-Kat. Don’t think about it.

Taylor: You guys are being so unfair.

Katie: Ooh, we’re unfair, nice job

Greg: Thank You.

Anna-Kat: (rapping) I love to play with my ponies. Oh yeah. I love to play with my po-o-o-o-onies. My ponies are the best in my room they love to talk they love to play with me. (Claps rhythmically until she stops her song)

Carly: so I have school coming on for everybody.

Sonny: sweet.

Carly: so Katie signed up for volunteering today.

Elizabeth: alright. That’s my good friend over there.

Carly: yep. She’s dealing with the kids right now she’s on now to Anna-Kat about signing up for an after school club.

Elizabeth: (about Anna-Kat) she has to sign up for an after school club for this year?

Carly: yes. That’s what Katie said.

Katie: I just have to face it. I can’t take a step back from mothering, I’ll just phone in being a wife.

Greg: understood.

Katie: I’ll take this one. (Opens Anna-Kat’s door) Anna-Kat, we need to talk.

Anna-Kat: (puts her ponies down)

Katie: So I’m going to tell you this, I signed up for volunteering.

Anna-Kat: (gasps and claps her hands)

Katie: I know your happy.

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. (Shakes her butt and giggles while doing it)

Katie: (Chuckles while Anna-Kat Shakes her butt) but you have to sign up for an after school club.

Anna-Kat: (gasps sadly) that’s so unfair.

Katie: I know sweetie but you have to do all the work that you’ve been doing.

Anna-Kat: OK. but I’m nervous.

Katie: are you really nervous?

Anna-Kat: (being extremely sad) mm-hmm. (Starts crying tears of sadness)

Katie: aww baby, (they both hug while Anna-Kat is still crying) it’s ok. I know it’s sad to you but good news, I’ll get you a reward for being good. Do you want that?

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily) uh-huh. (Cries a little)

Katie: just take a deep breath and no more crying over clubs ok?

Anna-Kat: but I can’t help it. (Sniffles) I don’t know which club am I gonna do because you’re forcing me one to do. It’s so unfair. (Continues crying and sniffles)

Katie: aw my little princess sweetheart it’s ok. (Both hug and rub each other’s backs during it while Anna-Kat is still crying over picking an after school club) (says this paragraph during the hug) it’s ok to cry over it I know. It’s ok. (Both hug more) and I know it’s hard and very teary eyed for you but it’s ok. Do you wanna take a deep breath to make you feel better?

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. (Sniffles)

Katie: ok. 1,2,3. Breath in smell the flowers

Anna-Kat: (inhales deeply)

Katie: and breath out blow out the birthday candles.

Anna-Kat: (exhales deeply and wipes away her tears)

Katie: feel better?

Anna-Kat: mm-hmm. (Sniffles)

Katie: do you wanna scream that’s so unfair so you can get it out?

Anna-Kat: yeah. (In sadness)

Katie: ok.

Anna-Kat: (waits for 5 seconds) THAT’S SO UNFAIR! (Calm voice) there I go. I’m sorry for being rude to you about the clubs. I’m sorry. (Continues crying and sniffles)

Katie: I know I know. (Both hug and rub each other’s backs during it while Anna-Kat is still crying tears of sadness because of Katie telling her to do an after school club so Anna-Kat is crying tears of sadness) (says this paragraph during the hug) it’s ok. Do you wanna do reward systems for this year at home?

Anna-Kat: mm-hmm. (Sniffles)

Katie: ok. So starting tonight, we’re gonna be doing reward systems for you. But if you annoy Taylor or Oliver, I’m not bringing you anything. Got it?

Anna-Kat: got it.

Katie: so what do you want to work for? for this year?

Anna-Kat: a stuffed animal.

Katie: a stuffed animal?

Anna-Kat: yeah. (Acts like cuckoo pants and giggles while acting like cuckoo pants)

Katie: OK cuckoo pants. (Giggles with Anna-Kat) So here. (Shows Anna-Kat the clean reward systems list) you’re gonna earn tallies right here were I’m pointing. It says tallies go here. If you behave for me and never give me a hard time, you earn a tally.

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily) yay.

Katie: I know (chuckles). But if you are rude to me or annoying Taylor or Oliver or both of them or giving me a hard time, you lose one.

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: good. So if you behave for me tonight and not give me a hard time, you’re gonna earn your first tally.

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily) OK mama.

Katie: so maybe doing an after school club should be the first thing in the reward systems list so you can earn tallies if you do them correctly.

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily) OK mama. (Giggles)

Katie: OK my little cuckoo pants. (Giggles with Anna-Kat) I love you.

Anna-Kat: I love you too. (Both Katie and Anna-Kat hug) but what if I don’t get it right though.

Katie: (rubs Anna-Kat’s back during this paragraph) relax. It’s gonna be ok. And FYI I’ll pick you up after your done with the club. OK?

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: ok. Are you gonna be fine when I talk to Oliver?

Anna-Kat: a little.

Katie: aw sweetie, (rubs Anna-Kat’s back) I’ll be really fast. OK?

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie; alright. I love you.

Anna-Kat: I love you too. (Both hug)

Greg: wow, so just one unfair scream from Taylor.

Katie: yeah. But Anna-Kat said it too but she said it quietly and starts crying tears of sadness because she doesn’t want to sign up for an after school club so I hugged her and said it’s ok. But I told her FYI, I’m going to pick her up from the club she’s signing up on. but starting tonight, her and I are going reward systems so she can work for a stuffed animal for the year.

Greg: that’s cool. Let’s go in Oliver’s room. We should probably give him some warning before we come in. (Gives Oliver warning) here we are in Oliver’s room let’s go in.

Katie: let’s talk to him.

Greg: oh yeah. (Opens Oliver’s door)

Oliver: (practices the rehearsal for ballet)

Greg: wow. That’s great.

Oliver: yep. I’m practicing for the recital next week.

Katie: you know what? You deserve it.

Oliver: (to Katie) thanks for sticking up for me.

Katie: oh honey, (starts hugging Oliver) that is what I’m here for.

Greg: huh, so we got 1 person who listens to our instructions.

Katie: yeah, but Anna-Kat gets a little nervous when I talk to her so I hug her and say it’s ok because she gets nervous over things that she doesn’t want to do so I hug her and say it’s ok.

Greg: yeah, but you’re doing something with her for the year.

Katie: yep.

Greg: alright. See you in a bit.

Katie: yep. (Opens Anna-Kat’s door and spends time with Anna-Kat) ok. I’m back.

Anna-Kat: I know mama. Yay. I love you so much. (hugs Katie and Katie hugs her back) (both hug for 5 minutes)

Katie: (says this paragraph during the hug) aw hi. (Rubs Anna-Kat’s back during the hug) I love you so much too sweetheart and I always love you. Always. (Both continue hugging and rubbing each other’s backs during it) so, dinner’s gonna be ready in about 5 minutes. OK?

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: ok. I’ll get you from your room so you can be the first one because you always listen to my instructions. And FYI, you love chicken and rice. Right?

Anna-Kat: of course. What does FYI mean mama?

Katie: FYI means for your information.

Anna-Kat: ok. Now I understand the definition of it.

Katie: great sweetie. Can you try this mask for me?

Anna-Kat: is there a disease that’s happening in Westport because if so, I’m scared. (Gets apprehensive)

Katie: there’s no disease my little princess. (Rubs Anna-Kat’s back while Anna-Kat is still apprehensive) I just want you to try it on for me. OK?

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: so try it on.

Anna-Kat: (puts the mask on covering her mouth)

Katie: sweetie it’s gotta go over your nose.

Anna-Kat: (covers her nose with the mask)

Katie: ok. Now take it off and give it to me.

Anna-Kat: (takes the mask off and gives it to Katie)

Katie: ok. Thanks for trying it on.

Anna-Kat: your welcome mama. (Both hug)

Katie: ok. So your stuffed animal bird. Is she sweet as candy to you?

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. I hugged her when I was sad when you were talking to Oliver.

Katie: mm-hmm. I heard you when I talked to him. Even though he was listening to my instructions today, you also listened to my instructions today. Taylor, not so much. I think that you are more obedient than them.

Anna-Kat: uh-huh. When you and daddy confronted Taylor, I tried to annoy her in my room but I stopped myself so I don’t want to get in trouble by you.

Katie: you tried not to annoy Taylor in your own room when me and your dad confronted her? But you stopped yourself so you don’t want to get in trouble by me. I’m very proud of you for doing that.

Anna-Kat: thanks mama. You’re the best parent ever. (Both hug)

Katie: thanks my little princess. (Stop hugging) ok. I’ll get you in about 5 minutes. OK?

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: alright. I love you.

Anna-Kat: I love you too. (Both hug)

(dinner)

(6:32 PM)

Katie: (knocks on Anna-Kat’s door and opens it) are you ready for dinner?

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily) yes. (Acts like a weirdo while going downstairs for dinner)

Katie: aw, my little sweetheart, come here. (Both hug while Anna-Kat is still acting like cuckoo pants)

Anna-Kat: my favorite. Chicken and rice. (Acts like cuckoo pants and giggles during it and her and Katie hug during Anna-Kat being cuckoo pants)

Katie: (to Taylor and Oliver) dinner’s ready.

(everyone comes down to eat)

(after dinner 7:21 PM)

Anna-Kat: hey mama, can you spend time with me please?

Katie: sure. (Both go upstairs to Anna-Kat’s room and while they are in Anna-Kat’s room, they both hug) so what do you wanna do?

Anna-Kat: maybe watch a little kids show.

Katie: oh please. You’ve been watching Kate and Mim-Mim like forever.

Anna-Kat: because it’s my favorite show. (Acts like a weirdo and giggles while acting like a weirdo)

Katie: aw (giggles with Anna-Kat while Anna-Kat is still acting like a weirdo) come here weirdo. (Both hug and rub each other’s backs during it)

Anna-Kat: (stop hugging) Maybe we should act like them.

Katie: ok sweetie.

Anna-Kat: yay.

Katie: (chuckles) you love that show. Right?

Anna-Kat: yeah. Let’s act like them. I’m Kate, your Mim-Mim.

Katie: ok.

Anna-Kat: (as Kate) Mim-Mim funny bunny friend, it’s time to come to life again. (Giggles)

Katie: (as Mim-Mim spinning Anna-Kat as Kate) Kate and Mim-Mim Me and You, let’s twirl our way to mimiloo.

(both Katie and Anna-Kat giggle and hug)

Katie: (says this paragraph during the hug) I love you so much my little princess sweetheart.

Anna-Kat: (says this paragraph during the hug) I love you too mama. (Continues hugging Katie and Katie continues hugging Anna-Kat)

(both rub each other’s backs during the hug)

Katie: ok. (Both stop hugging) so you’re gonna go to bed tonight at 9:00. OK?

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: ok. I’ll tell you when to go. OK?

Anna-Kat: ok. Can I go on the iPad right now please?

Katie: I said not tonight.

Anna-Kat: I’ll behave. I promise. Please can I go on? Please? (Gives Katie puppy eyes and hugs Katie while she is still giving Katie puppy eyes)

Katie: (sighs and hugs Anna-Kat back) it’s ok that you’re giving me puppy eyes because you want the iPad I know it’s ok. You know what?

Anna-Kat: (sadly) yeah?

Katie: (sighs and rubs Anna-Kat’s back while Anna-Kat is still sad) you can go on the iPad.

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily) yay. Thanks mama.

Katie: your welcome. You can use it for a half an hour. OK?

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: but when I say it’s time to get off what are we gonna do?

Anna-Kat: get off the iPad and give it to you.

Katie: yep.

Anna-Kat: ok mama. (Gets the iPad and goes on it)

(during midnight 12:30 AM)

Anna-Kat: (cries nervously during her sleep) mama...mama

Katie: (hears Anna-Kat crying) who is that?

Greg: probably Anna-Kat.

Katie: (Goes in the hall and hears Anna-Kat crying nervously) (knocks on Anna-Kat’s door)

Anna-Kat: (sadly) yeah?

Katie: it’s mama.

Anna-Kat: come in. (Continues crying nervously)

Katie: (opens Anna-Kat’s door, closes it to talk to Anna-Kat and turns her light on to see Anna-Kat’s face) Anna-Kat what’s wrong?

Anna-Kat: I’ve been thinking about the school clubs that you need to sign me on but I had a dream that everyone was telling me to do one but I got scared and I’m scared and nervous now. (Continues crying nervously)

Katie: (sighs, sees Anna-Kat’s tears and rubs Anna-Kat’s back while Anna-Kat is still crying nervously) I know that picking a club is hard for you but you have to do one and I’m sure that you can just do it for this year, not next year, just for this year. And I know your nervous and it’s ok to be very very very nervous and it’s ok to cry about it I know clubs make you cry sometimes. Right?

Anna-Kat: right. But it happens every time I get to the shot where the clubs happen for me and not everyone else. (Continues crying nervously)

Katie: aww. I just want to make sure that you were still going there for fun and you know what is best for you. And I’m always there for you and every time you are crying, I will be here for you. OK?

Anna-Kat: OK. (Continues crying nervously)

Katie: hey, it’s ok. (Both Katie and Anna-Kat hug while Anna-Kat is still crying nervously)

(morning)

Greg: what was up with Anna-Kat during midnight?

Katie: (sighs) she was crying nervously about picking an after school club. Now she feels better but she was all nervous during the night.

Greg: huh, weird.

Taylor: where is my phone?

Greg: I don’t know? Did you lose it that I didn’t tell you to lose it?

Taylor: no.

Greg: don’t worry. We’ll call your phone right now.

Taylor: OK. (Runs upstairs)

Anna-Kat: (comes downstairs)

Katie: are you feeling better with the things I told you to do?

Anna-Kat: uh-huh.

Katie: good I’m happy to hear that.

Anna-Kat: thanks mama.

Katie: you just earned a tally.

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily and screams) thanks mama so very much.

Katie: your welcome so very much sweetheart. (Both hug)

Anna-Kat: I love you so very much.

Katie: I love you too so very much honey. You’re getting to be a big girl and you have to do it that way.

Anna-Kat: thanks mama.

Katie: your welcome. Now go get ready for school.

Anna-Kat: OK. (Walks upstairs to her room and gets ready for school)

Taylor: (to Katie rudely) you.

Greg: me?

Taylor: no. Mom. (Rudely) how gay are you?

Katie: what?

Taylor: (rudely) you think I can be able to get a license? Try that again will you punk and get over the fact that you are the one who’s dealing with everything and raising hell. (Walks away angrily because of what Katie did to Taylor)

Katie: (sighs offendly and gets offended because of what Taylor said to her)

Katie narrating: my oldest thinks I’m a liar. But I am sometimes a bitch because I think I’m failing enough already.

(Dinner)

Katie: so I made some stuffed shells. They’re very good. (Everyone tries stuffed shells)

Taylor: I like it.

Oliver: so do I.

Anna-Kat: thanks mama very much.

Katie: you’re welcome. (To Taylor) so did you talk about what your gonna do after high school?

Taylor: yeah. But I’m not going to college.

Katie: you have to.

Taylor: but I don’t want to.

Greg: Taylor you’re mother’s right. You are going to college and if your not done with your summer packet you’re not gonna be driving.

Taylor: (sighs angrily)

Anna-Kat: (to Taylor) Ooh you don’t get to start driving next week. And PS your going to college and doing your summer packet. (Giggles)

Taylor: ugh Mom

Katie: well she might annoy you but just ignore her. But You have a lot of work to do.

Greg: and it is very important because If your not done with your summer packet you are not gonna start driving.

Taylor: (sighs angrily)

Anna-Kat: (to Taylor) Ooh you are gonna be in so much trouble. And PS, you’re gonna be so grounded forever. (Giggles)

Taylor: UGH! (gets out of her chair and dumps her stuffed shells in Anna-Kat’s hooha)

Anna-Kat: oh my hooha. (exhales nervously)

Taylor: (sits down angrily and continues being angry while glaring at Anna-Kat)

Anna-Kat: (feels the tinkle in her hooha because of Taylor who dumped her stuffed shells in Anna-Kat’s hooha) it tinkles. (Continues feeling the tinkle)

Greg: Taylor I think you’re a little harsh with Anna-Kat.

Taylor: because she was annoying me about college and driving after you told me.

Greg: well I know. But you can’t put your stuffed shells in her hooha.

Katie: (rubs Anna-Kat’s hooha while it is still tinkling) I know. We’ll make you an appointment for your hooha. OK?

Anna-Kat: OK.

Molly: let’s see that. (Flashes the light on her phone and sees Anna-Kat’s hooha and gasps) holy (bleep) (sits down in her seat)

Carly: (looks at Anna-Kat’s hooha) Jesus (bleep) Christ. That’s too much for a heart attack that Anna-Kat was having because of Taylor.

Katie: Taylor, I think you were a little harsh with Anna-Kat. It’s not ok. And I know your upset because she annoyed you but you can’t put your stuffed shells in her hooha.

Taylor: (rudely) but I’m angry because of her. Do I like it when she annoys me? Hell no. (Stomps upstairs to her room)

Anna-Kat: (feels the tinkle in her hooha in Taylor’s stuffed shells and exhales nervously)

Katie: aw sweetie. (Rubs Anna-Kat’s hooha and Anna-Kat feels the rubbing from Katie)

(The day of the appointment)

Doctor: ok we’re gonna do this. OK?

Anna-Kat: (still crying) ok.

Doctor: one, two, three. (Takes the sauce out of Anna-Kat’s hooha)

Anna-Kat: (screams and cries)

Katie: it’s ok. Breath.

Anna-Kat: (breaths nervously)

(when it was over)

Doctor: ok. I think that you are better.

Anna-Kat: thank you.

Katie: (to Taylor) I think you should apologize to Anna-Kat.

Taylor: (sighs) I’m sorry for putting stuffed shells in your hoo-ha.

Anna-Kat: I accept your apology. (Both hug)

(the day after the doctors appointment)

Anna-Kat: (crying) but it’s not fair.

Ms Meltzer: well sometimes life isn’t fair and I know it’s hard but sometimes it’s a little bit annoying and I know you don’t like joining a club but your mother is right. You are joining a club.

Anna-Kat: great. Now I ruined my whole life. (Continues crying)

Ms Meltzer: now now. You didn’t ruin your life, you just didn’t listen to anyone but yourself. Only what you wanted. And sometimes it’s hard but it’s not ok. And I understand. It’s ok. (Both hug and Ms Meltzer rubs Anna-Kat’s back during their hug while Anna-Kat is still crying)

(when Anna-Kat got home)

Katie: (opens the door for Anna-Kat and closes it after)

Anna-Kat: (continues crying)

Katie: listen, (rubs Anna-Kat’s back while Anna-Kat is still crying during the sentences) (says this paragraph during the rubbing) I know that picking a club is sad for you but Ms Meltzer is right. You have to do the club. And I’m right. You are joining an after school club. And I don’t appreciate you talking back to me, and I don’t appreciate you being rude to me. I think we should be grounded for a couple minutes. Go to your room.

Anna-Kat: (rudely) fine. (Stomps upstairs to her room and continues crying)

Katie: and you think about what fine you’re saying to me. I don’t appreciate that kind of fine because it’s rude and disrespectful. (sits on the couch for a couple minutes)

(15 minutes later)

Katie: (goes upstairs to Anna-Kat’s room and opens and closes Anna-Kat’s door) do you understand why are you in here?

Anna-Kat: (continues crying) because I was talking back to you. I’m sorry. (Continues crying)

Katie: I understand that you’re sorry but you have to show me that your sorry.

Anna-Kat: (Continues crying) but all I wanted to do is to stay and not do after school clubs anymore. (Sniffles) it’s not fair. (Continues crying)

Katie: I know I know. (Both hug and Katie rubs Anna-Kat’s back during it while Anna-Kat is still crying) but listen, I understand you don’t want to do a club. But FYI, You’ll be ok and I promise you’ll do great at the clubs and I know you’re nervous and sad but don’t worry. You have some nice girls who are your nice friends and you also have Penny.

Anna-Kat: because she’s my best friend and I always have her back and she always has mine. (Sniffles and hides her hair in her face)

Katie: I know. But you’re always fun and I know picking a club is hard, but you still have your tallies to be with you. (Gets Anna-Kat’s hair out of Anna Kat’s face) and I know clubs are very sad, shy and nervous but sometimes we have our things and I know your tears come out because you don’t want to pick a club. Right?

Anna-Kat: right. (Continues crying and sniffles)

Katie: so, what do you have to say to me?

Anna-Kat: I’m sorry mama. (Continues crying and sniffles)

Katie: I accept your apology. Come here. (Both hug and Katie rubs Anna-Kat’s back during it while Anna-Kat is still crying) it’s ok I know.

(the next day)

(2:30 PM)

(Taylor, Oliver and Anna-Kat walk in the house angrily because they hated what Katie and Greg told them to do)

Katie: what is going on with you three?

Taylor: (rudely) we were talking about you two. I can’t believe you Dad.

Oliver: (rudely) I can’t believe you Mom.

Anna-Kat: (rudely) and so can I too.

Greg: Katie it’s understandable that our kids are always angry at us.

Katie: mm-hmm.

Taylor: (rudely) you guys are really screwing us up. We just want one normal day that we don’t want to do and we had and we didn’t so it’s back into your face.

Oliver: (rudely) you guys think that we are capable of doing our own things that we were taught bro be done but really you were gonna do what’s best for us but really you’re doing what’s best for you.

Anna-Kat: (to Katie rudely) you wanted me to do an after school club that I was forced to do.

Oliver: (to Katie rudely) and you wanted me to get a pair of dance skins but you didn’t.

Taylor: (to Greg rudely) and you wanted me to do my summer packet but I did before you told me to so it looks like you were wrong.

Katie: this is insane. You guys are always mad at us.

Taylor: (rudely) We are so mad at you two. Trying to force us something that we don’t wanna do, that is unacceptable.

Oliver: (rudely) we are so disappointed in you two. You lied to us.

Katie: what?

Greg: we never lied.

Oliver: (rudely) I think you did. Unacceptable.

Taylor: (rudely) so we’ll just ignore you two from now on.

Anna-Kat: (rudely) and unfortunately, you’re never gonna let us down because you always do.

Taylor: (rudely) so you guys can focus on anyone else but us. And if that’s uncomfortable, too bad so sad. (Her, Oliver and Anna-Kat walk away angrily glaring at Katie and Greg)

Katie: (offended) did we have to see that?

Greg: I think so.

Katie: they’re always mean to us.

Greg: yeah. (Both get sad because they did something wrong to Taylor, Oliver and Anna-Kat)

(couple minutes ago)

Katie: (goes upstairs and knocks on Anna-Kat’s door)

Anna-Kat: yeah,

Katie: (opens Anna-Kat’s door and closes it while she’s in Anna-Kat’s room) I think what you said to me was kinda rude and disrespectful so I think we’re not gonna get our electronics back for the rest of the day.

Anna-Kat: (gasps sadly and cries)

Katie: I know. (Rubs Anna-Kat’s back while Anna-Kat is still crying) Sometimes, we have to be respectful. You need to be the one to show a lot of respect to me. You’re kinda making me cry. And we don’t want that. Right?

Anna-Kat: (sighs sadly) no.

Katie: yeah. So from now on, when we do the rewards systems list, we’re gonna be nice, respectful and polite. OK?

Anna-Kat: ok. I’ll try.

Katie: that’s all I’m saying sweetheart. Just try. (Comforts Anna-Kat and they both hug while Anna-Kat is still in tears) I know it’s hard. Don’t worry. I’ll help you. OK?

Anna-Kat: OK. (Sniffles)

Katie: I know. I’ll tell you what. If we become a nice, respectful kid and you don’t give me a hard time, I’ll get you some candy.

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily) Yay.

Katie: But take this as a warning, If you keep disrespecting me or any of your family members, then no candy for you. Got it?

Anna-Kat: Got it.

Katie: Good.

Taylor: (gets a notification from her phone) Ugh. why is it saying a year called 02? It’s 2017. God.

(the next day 3:45 PM)

Anna-Kat: (gets apprehensive about herself picking an after school club)

Katie: aw my baby princess sweetheart come here. (Both hug and rub each other’s backs during it while Anna-Kat is still apprehensive about picking an after school club) (says this paragraph during the hug) it’s ok my little princess. It’s ok. Listen, when we get apprehensive over clubs we are and it’s ok and I know it’s apprehensive but it’s ok to be apprehensive and alarmed over clubs. It’s just you and me. Why don’t you use the iPad to cheer you up. Maybe you can use it before and after dinner.

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: and it’s just you and me for dinner tonight because your father is working late and Taylor and Oliver are going to a concert with their friends.

Anna-Kat: how long are Taylor and Oliver gonna be out with their friends?

Katie: probably until 10:00.

Anna-Kat: aw. (Gets sad because Taylor and Oliver won’t be here for dinner) they always want to spend time with their friends and not me. (Gets even more sad)

Katie: aw sweetheart it’s ok. Listen, Taylor and Oliver are adults and you’re a kid. So they have to do whatever they want now because they’re aloud to go out. They are. You have to stay with me or daddy or both of us because your a kid, not an adult. Taylor is starting to drive and Oliver walks to his friend’s house.

Anna-Kat: what about me?

Katie: you stay because you are the kid. I’m the adult and you’re the kid. Now let’s have some tacos.

Anna-Kat: ok.

Katie: we can use the iPad during dinner because there is no one else home with us.

Anna-Kat: (gasps happily and claps her hands and gets the iPad and uses it while eating)

Katie: (texts Taylor we are eating now. Hope you are with Oliver your friends and Oliver’s friends)

Taylor: oh Mom texted me. (Texts Katie back yes we are Thanks Mom)

Katie: (reads Taylor’s text) they’re so fun. (Eats with Anna-Kat)

Anna-Kat: (giggles while eating)

Katie: what is it sweetheart?

Anna-Kat: this person is making slime by her dog. (Continues giggling)

Katie: sweetie, I told you that slime is banned from this house and those videos for you are a little inappropriate for your age.

Anna-Kat: ok mama I’m sorry.

Katie: That’s ok honey. Just remember next time. OK?

Anna-Kat: OK. (watches an 8 year old playing with her stuffed animals)

Katie: that’s better sweetie.

Anna-Kat: ok mama. (Continues eating) where’s Daddy?

Katie: He had to work. He’ll be back the time that you’ll be in bed.

Anna-Kat: OK.

(Taylor and Oliver cheer and dance along at a ball with their friends)

Taylor: this is the best day ever.

Oliver: I know. (Both cheering)

Katie: (continues eating with Anna-Kat)

Anna-Kat: mama, can you put on some music?

Katie: sure honey. I’ll put it on from my phone. (Puts on Adele)

Anna-Kat: what is this?

Katie: this is Adele. Remember this song set fire to the rain?

Anna-Kat: yeah. I do.

Katie: good sweetheart. (Both continue eating while Adele’s set fire to the rain is playing)
